Women face constant pressure to be beautiful, don’t they? I know I feel it, even in the small (okay, extremely small) amount of exposure I get to the real world outside of my mountains of laundry, school work, and diapers. We’re told to wear makeup, dye our hair, and wear sexy bras (like ANYTHING is going to help these puppies look like they once did) 😉 But in trying to improve our appearance, (who doesn’t like to be told they are beautiful?) we are actually harming ourselves with countless chemicals and toxins. That doesn’t seem fair, now does it?
My holistic practitioner once told me that women are 7 times more likely to develop Hashimoto’s than men are, because we have applied over 200 chemicals to our faces before leaving the bathroom in the morning. Think about it; cleansers, lotions, firming creams, foundation, eye makeup, blush, lipstick, mascara, eyeliner, perfume… every one of those bought conventionally contains toxic ingredients. And once you apply all of that to your skin, it’s absorbed into every cell in your body within 20 minutes. Not to mention, applying all of that stuff to our face and neck is applying it directly to our thyroid. Scary, isn’t it?
This is the reason that I not only use natural, fruit dyed makeup, but I also use natural cleansers, sunscreen, and natural makeup remover. Anything you put on your skin will be absorbed by your body.
2 Ingredient Natural Makeup Remover
- Small mason jar
- Organic cotton makeup pads
- Fractionated Coconut Oil(it stays liquid)
- 1-2 pumps of baby shampoo
Put the baby shampoo into the mason jar, and fill halfway with the coconut oil. Put on the lid and shake it well so it mixes. Then, just add the cotton pads and let them soak up the liquid. If you’ve got room left after the jar is full of pads, top it off with coconut oil. Let it sit for a couple of hours before you use them, so the pads are thoroughly soaked.
These help take off makeup so easily, without putting chemicals on your skin!
What’s your favorite non-toxic beauty routine?

Ooh I figured it was coconut oil but I haven’t heard of fractionated. Gotta look into that cause it’s my fave moisturizer.
Stefani says
Fractionated is awesome for applying essential oils, moisturizer, etc. I love it!

Coconut oil is SUCH an incredible makeup remover, isn’t it? When I first heard the idea, I was super skeptical, but now it’s all I use! That Hashimoto’s statistic absolutely terrifies me, because I know THREE women who were diagnosed with it in the past year… :O So crazy.
Thanks so much for sharing <3

I was so skeptical at first too, but it works like magic! And yeah, it’s crazy the amount of people who are developing chronic illness because of all of the chemicals in our food and products. Gotta be vigilant!
