Happy Halloween, y’all! Halloween can be such a fun day with dressing up the kiddos in adorable costumes, collecting lots of goodies, and getting to spend time together having fun. Carving pumpkins is a main tradition for most American families during the Halloween season, but tomorrow Halloween will be over. What will we do with the used pumpkins then? I hate thinking about just throwing them away, so here are a few ideas for what to do with pumpkins after Halloween!
Compost – Pumpkins are great for compost because once they’ve been carved, they’ll start rotting quickly. So once Halloween is over, throw them in your compost pile and let them get to work!
Use them to feed farm animals – If you have your own animals, then they’d love to have your leftover pumpkins! If you don’t, donating them to a local farmer would be greatly appreciated – by the animals and by the farmer!
Leave them in the woods – If you don’t have a farmer nearby, then you can leave the pumpkins in the woods. The wild animals would love a pumpkin feast, and deer are especially fond of them.Use them as a flower pot- You can put some flowers in the pumpkin and plant it in the ground. The flowers will love the extra nutrients and you’ll avoid trashing the pumpkin.
Before carving them, make sure you save the seeds to roast them! Roasted pumpkin seeds are incredibly delicious, not to mention packed with nutrients.
If you don’t carve your pumpkins, then you can cook with them after Halloween is over! Pumpkins that haven’t been carved will stay good for a month or two. So cut them open, roast some seeds, and make a delicious pumpkin recipe!
