I know what you’re thinking – “what’s this crazy girl getting into now?” And while that’s a very valid question because you never know what I’m getting into; I promise that this particular remedy is mild compared to many of the other ones I’ve tried. (My poor husband, he’s such a good sport!) Yes, I’ve been beating brain fog immensely using mushroom coffee. I feel like I can think more clearly, and I am functioning more like a normal person again.
Using mushrooms medicinally is nothing new. As a matter of fact, mushrooms have been used to treat illness for thousands of years. I’ve been using them for the past year and a half to help with some of the neurological symptoms of my Lyme disease.
One in particular has been frustrating, especially for a blogger. I get this symptom that is almost like a typing dyslexia; I’ll just be writing and I’ll switch certain letters and keep going like it’s normal. Then I’ll catch it and have to go back and re-type. So as you can imagine, it takes me much longer than normal to write a blog post when I’m not treating this.
I found that Lion’s Mane mushroom helped with this symptom, and while I’m on it I notice a huge difference. There’s no mistyping, switching letters, and writing things out of order. I was immediately a fan of medicinal mushrooms and have been ever since. Lion’s Mane is a cognitive enhancing mushroom, that helps with concentration and beating brain fog. Hello, short-term memory. It’s been a while.
Other mushroom coffees available are Reishi, Cordyceps, and Chaga. Reishi is great for relaxation and sleep, Cordyceps is helpful for raising energy levels, and Chaga is fantastic for boosting immune function. They’ve got all of these different coffees, and I am absolutely in love with them all. But the Lion’s Mane has a special place in my heart.
Beating Brain Fog with Mushrooms?
As you can imagine, the Think with Lion’s Mane mushroom coffee from Four Sigmatic is my favorite. It only has 50mg of caffeine which I am happy with, because I can have one early afternoon and not worry about it keeping me up at night.
I find that my energy is pretty stable throughout the day thanks to following a Wahls Paleo/Bulletproof style diet, and the higher fat really helps balance my energy. I make my mushroom coffee bulletproof, which means that I add grass fed butter and MCT oil to it and then blend it up. It results in a creamy, smooth, and delicious beverage with amazing health benefits!
One of my favorite things about the mushroom coffee from Four Sigmatic is the fact that it’s tested for mycotoxins. Now, this may not mean much to you, and if not, consider yourself lucky. If you’ve been exposed to mold and have reacted to it, then you’re likely sensitive to mycotoxins, which are the dangerous byproduct of mold. Four Sigmatic tests their coffees to make sure that their levels of mycotoxins, pesticides, and other impurities are as low as possible. This is super important for beating brain fog.
In the event that you’re sensitive to coffee, or you just don’t drink it- then Four Sigmatic also has a line of elixirs that don’t have coffee in them! You can still get the amazing benefits of the mushrooms without the coffee. And double bonus- they have some amazingly delicious hot cacao blends too. Tis the season, y’all!
The addition of Lion’s Mane mushroom coffee, plus my ultra clean diet, has been invaluable for beating brain fog and improving my health in general. I’m able to recall things much easier, my sarcasm is coming back beautifully, and I can feel my body healing itself. I’m so thankful for healing.

Have you struggled with beating brain fog? What have you found to work or not work for you?
That’s so cool that mushrooms have healing benefits!
Due to my religion, I’m not able to drink coffee. Would ordinary Lion’s Mane mushroom work?
Thanks!
Hi Crys! They’ve got amazing Mushroom Elixirs too, that are more of a tea form without coffee. So they’ve got you there, girl! Let me know how you like it!
Very cool… I’ve never heard of this before. Thanks for sharing the health tip! 🙂 Regards, Alex (https://dailyps.com)
I’ve been thinking about trying mushroom coffee for a while and you may have me convinced! I always want coffee in the afternoon but can’t handle much caffeine. Does it taste anything like regular coffee?
It tastes like a softer, not as bitter coffee. I love it!
I’ve been thinking about trying mushroom coffee for a while and you may have me convinced. I always want coffee in the afternoons but I can’t handle much caffeine that late. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve heard about mushroom coffee before but have never really thought much of it. And I’m afraid I have to pass this chance of drinking one as I would get palpitations whenever I drink coffee or any kind of drink with caffeine.
Evelyn, they have mushroom elixirs without caffeine in them, so you can get the health benefits without the jitters! Also I’ve found drinking my coffee bulletproof style (with grass fed butter and brain octane) has gotten rid of my coffee palls because the fat makes it digest slower! May be something to try????
Oh! Honestly, it’s been years since I drank coffee! So, this is great news!
I love this idea! I can’t wait to try it. I’m always looking for healthier beverages to drink and if this can help with concentration and eliminate brain fog it is worth a try. My favorite thing to help with brain fog is diffusing Frankincense at night. It has really helped eliminate brain fog for my daughter. We add Lavender as well to help with sleep.
I love Frankincense! I just got a new bottle, I need to start using it at night!
